About us

Riverpool is a Portuguese project that aims to promote the Cardano community through the Portuguese language. Since 2017, we have followed the evolution of the Cardano project, an open-source project taking large steps towards the sustainable development of the blockchain and minimizing the impact of financial intermediaries on our personal finances. We also believe that the financial paradigm shift must be based on solid scientific bases, with development teams from some of the best universities from around the world.

What is Cardano? Cardano

Following the success of Bitcoin, thousands of other cryptos were created. Some of these have become well-known names in the digital assets market, such as Ethereum and Ripple. One of these examples is the blockchain project developed by the company Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), which takes the name of Cardano.

Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain platform: the first to be founded on peer-reviewed research and developed through evidence-based methods. It combines pioneering technologies to provide unparalleled security and sustainability to decentralized applications, systems, and societies. After the initial development of Bitcoin (first-generation blockchain), and Ethereum (second generation blockchain), the implementation of the Ouroboros protocol, brought by Cardano, brings cryptocurrencies to a third generation focused on decentralization and scalability.

Provably Secure

Built using high-assurance formal development methods, Cardano’s Proof of Stake protocol aims to achieve Scalability, Interoperability, and Sustainability.

Decentralized

The Cardano blockchain includes monetary incentives to diversify the number of evenly distributed stake pools in the system, thus making the system even more decentralized than Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrencies - Cardano

What is cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrencies are digital assets, based on Blockchain technology. Through a decentralized ledger system, they take financial intermediaries (such as banks) out from the transaction process, using cryptography artifacts to guarantee the security of transactions. These are validated by all nodes in the network, through a consensus mechanism, be it proof-of-work (Proof-of-Work or PoW), as in Bitcoin or Ethereum, or proof-of-participation (Proof -of-Stake or PoS). Started in 2008 with the creation of Bitcoin, it has been an expanding market, constituting at the time of writing, a global market of 480 billion euros.

What is Staking? Stake

Staking is the process of keeping cryptocurrencies in a wallet, in order to collaborate in maintaining the network, used as a process for validating transactions in the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. Staking is compensated by receiving rewards. Thus, through the delegation process you can obtain a greater return from your cryptocurrencies. On the Cardano blockchain, the delegation of cryptocurrencies can be done easily through the Daedalus and Yoroi personal wallets. In the staking process, cryptocurrencies never leave you wallet so you can trade them or convert them back to fiat (euros) through a broker (exchange) at any time. When you delegate to a stake pool, you are only granting your participation voting rights in the network to the staking pool. According to the PoS mechanism, each new block is generated by a stake pool chosen at random, based on the amount delegated to that pool, and its rewards are equally distributed among all participants.

You can estimate your return here. You must select the option Delegate My Stake and enter the number of Cardano tokens (ADA) you want to delegate. Below is an estimate of the annual return. NOTE: The values presented are simply an estimate, with no commitment to the values shown. The actual amount of ada earned may vary and will depend on several factors, including actual stake pool performance and changes to network parameters.

Given a correct maintenance of the staking infrastructure by the stake pool operators, the delegation process has no major associated risks. In the case of a harmful event, you may not receive a return during that epoch. You will not incur the loss of your coins as they never leave your personal wallet. As with the purchase of any financial asset sold on the market, keep in mind that cryptocurrencies are always subject to the risk of fluctuations in its market value - exchange rate risk (eg ADA / EUR). This risk could result in profits, in the case of the relative appreciation of the cryptocurrency, or losses in the opposite case. Always do your own research before investing in any financial asset. If you have any questions about Cardano, we are happy to help.
